3 cheers!

Share

3 cheers to the makers of 3 idiots! The best movie of 2009 teaches us how to live life and to pursue one’s dreams. All of us cherish the times spent in college. College life is all about having fun, bunking classes, catching the latest movie, crushes yada yada yada…For 3 idiots – Farhan, Rancho, and Raju , college was all this and more.

Rancho played by Aamir Khan is a guy who thinks out of the box. Loves to implement what he has studied. Is inquisitive and believes in striving for excellence and not success.
Farhan played by Madhavan is a care free guy who admires Rancho’s outlook towards life. He’s an engineering student by default. His only passion is wildlife photography.
Raju played by Sharman Joshi likes sticking by the rules of life. Is a wimp who has an ailing father, unmarried sister and poor mother. Raju dreams to be an engineer.
Piya played by Kareena Kapoor is a medical student who is attracted to Rancho for his innovative ideas. And is the professor’s daugther who hates the 3 idiots.
Virus played by Boman Irani is a professor at ICE – Imperial College of Engineering. He hates students who bend the rules. Has a stereotypical outlook towards education and does not encourage imagination and innovation.

But all this does not stop the 3 idiots. They believe ‘aal izzz welll’ and that one must study to be capable in life. Rancho is a constant support in Farhan and Raju’s life. Rancho is a pillar of strength…It is the life of the 3 idiots, how they follow their dreams due to Rancho’s persistent efforts…

The movie conveys the message of student suicides, parental and peer pressure, ragging, the drive to be at the top and the need to move ahead in the race of life beautifully. Hats off to Rajkumar Hirani for conveying the message of life with ease and simplicity. It’s a must watch! One of the best movies of its time!

Movie Review: Welcome to Rocket Sales Corp.

Share

Shimit Amin’s Chak De! India struck gold at the box office and gave SRK his most memorable role, that of Kabir Khan. His second film, Rocket Singh Salesman of the Year may have not done well but the critics have appreciated the current favorite Ranbir Kapoor’s performance. It’s a film that every one of us can relate to not just the people involved in ‘sales’.

Background: The story revolves around Harpreet Singh Bedi or HB who wants to ‘sell’. He joins AYS which deals in computer products and services as a trainee. Though he goofs up in the interview the CEO is impressed with his never-give-up attitude. Field inductions, rule of selling all interest him but it sis the corruption (bribery and politics) that disturb him and put him in trouble. He ends up being a ‘zero dimaag’ in the eyes of the CEO. So, here starts his discovery of selling himself to the world. Starts his own firm called Rocket Sales Corp (besides being a trainee at AYS). Gets a small team of people from AYS who trust each other and have the will to go higher with an honest outlook to life. His firm is known for its service and very soon the sales of Rocket Sales Corp grow higher than AYS’. This disturbs the CEO of AYS who is eager to know all about Rocket Sales…
Watch the movie to know what happens next…I don’t want to give out everything.

Cast: Ranbir as HB is fantastic! He has amazing screen presence. Guahar Khan as the receptionist of AYS is a pleasant surprise. Good acting from Giri as the IT guy and Nitin who’s the Sales Manager. And not to for get Prem Chopra who is adorable as HB’s Dadaji.

Watch the movie…It conveys the idea of selling effectively. Remember we are all selling at every point in life.
As HB says, “Spiderman ko bhi risk lena padtha hai.”

Aman Ki Asha

Share

It’s 2010! A new year and a new beginning for all of us.
As a reader of The Times of India, I was eager to see the first page and it brought a smile on my face. I’m sure it got many readers smiling too. It read ‘LOVE PAKISTAN’. Aman Ki Asha, an Indo-Pak peace project is an effort to bring the two nations together. One of the articles titled ‘Peace with Pakistan. Give tomorrow a chance’ by Jaideep Bose ends with these lines…
‘You may say I’m a dreamer, But I’m not the only one. I hope someday you’ll join us…’
Lets work together for peace and harmony between the two nations.

I wrote this essay for the PRCI essay competition on ‘Daughter’s Day’… Read on..

A woman wears many hats with confidence and grace – be that of an obedient daughter, responsible wife or a caring mother. We have heard this zillion of times and will continue to. For me, a woman is akin to a butterfly that represents freedom to fulfill her deepest aspirations and dreams. Both men and women have multitude of dreams but there is a difference and that is, a woman dreams not only about herself but her family too. Happiness is sought after by all of us and we seek it in different ways. Women seek happiness and pleasure in achieving the best for themselves in the career front and to be a steady force in their family. Work-life balance has become the buzz word today. In today’s dog-eat-dog world, it sure is ‘survival of the fittest’ and who better than women can fit the bill.

I work as an Account Executive at a PR firm. We recently conducted a book reading event for ‘Working Mothers’. Each of the women, who had contributed to the book, read out few excerpts of days of emotional disturbance, of leaving their tiny tots, of tears that would roll down their cheeks, and of days of not getting to catch a glimpse of their dearest. But the only motivating factor for the working mothers was the twinkle in the eyes and the innocent smile that would push them to work harder. It’s not only the upbringing of a child that concerns a woman, it is also the family life that makes her complete. Apart from this, her dreams of doing what she wants to and being what she wants to be cannot be uncared for. Women are sacrificing by nature, but today’s competitive women are ready to multi-task and are go-getters.

A question from one of the few men from the audience thundered claps at the venue. The man asked the difference between a working father and working mother. To this one of the women contributors of the book narrated an anecdote – She was traveling on work. One night she spoke to her son over the phone, and asked him if he had milk. To this the little boy said, ‘Papa gave me Pepsi’. That said it all!

My sister is working in a reputed MNC in the accounts department. Managing work and family has become her trademark. She excels at it; she looks after her home and her son with equal passion. Life sure changes for a woman drastically and she braves them confidently. Women have strong personalities and the fact that they do extremely well at multi-tasking makes them acers in this category.

This was particularly with regard to women in the IT field but there are millions of such women across the globe who may not necessarily work in a reputed place but are examples of women who manage career and home. Look around and you will find such women – the maid who keeps your home spick and span, the vegetable vendor who tries her best sales strategies, and many more.

Few days back Times Life (TOI) carried an article about women of the present generation being ultra glamorous and rebellious as ‘Veronica’, of the famous Archie’s comics. Today a man too seeks a woman who has the passion to succeed in every aspect of life. Ambitious women were once considered to be aggressive by nature. That’s no longer the case, determined women think of the best not only for themselves but also for the family. Solitude is no longer craved for but happiness and contentment in the family and career front sure is.

At the career front too, women have proved that they can do wonders and at the same time manage home. Society projects women as the weaker sex but that’s not what it is. Women are blessed with a strong mind and soul. This makes them truly successful in every aspect of life. Women balance work and home easily and they know to keep both their colleagues and their family members happy.

Being responsible for your actions and making the most of now is a skill that women possess. Also time management is their biggest strength and they must hone this aspect as this will take them to great heights and they will achieve what they have set forth to. A woman gets the tag of ‘nagging’ but I doubt that. If a woman is claimed to be nagging for all the reasons or for no reasons (as the men put it), then she must be doing it for - having to work out the morning/night shift that best suits her family, having to send her kid to a crèche or her mother’s place, keeping the meals ready for her family, and while doing all this and many more make a name for herself at her place of work and strive hard each day to make it big.

Women are often not thanked or shown gratitude. I doubt if a man can ever do what a woman does and manage both the career and family with the patience and zeal of a woman. A man too takes care of both but there are many aspects that a woman is capable of doing but a man is not. It’s not to put down the men, but we have all witnessed this at our place and elsewhere, so I take the liberty in saying these powerful statements.

To conclude, women are the sole force that can weather any storm and brave both the career and family. It becomes an integral part of a woman’s life and a woman’s efforts to better both continue with great fervor. Determination and will power are the strengths that women have been banking on since ages and today in the 21st century all of us sure know its not new, its just that we as human beings have woken up to this age old fact and I’m glad we have!

“The anti-aging industry: no slowing down even in a recession”

Share
What do people all over the world fear the most? In my opinion, it is the fear of losing one’s physical attributes or more frankly speaking it’s - aging. In a country like India, where ‘Fair n Lovely’ and ‘Ponds’ catch ones eye, it’s natural that women and men want to feel and stay ‘sweet 16’ forever. No wonder then that cosmetics industry is positive about the worst economic slowdowns ever in the history of global economy.

Recession seems to have affected all walks of life but not this industry that is still raring to go and that’s because beautiful people who want to remain so, don’t mind shelling out huge amounts of money to look their best. Few days back, Times of India carried an article on a similar concept – about a mother-daughter who share literally everything from clothes to shopping trips to the exact face and hair color too! The mother is a replica of her daughter and went under the knife for maintaining the energetic feel of youthful beauty. Now that’s something!

It’s hardly surprising in today’s day and age because everyone wants to carry off a personality that makes them confident and determined to take on the world. The cosmetics industry is flooding the market with anti-aging products that seem to go down well with consumers of various segments. Global brands lure people of all ages namely - L’Oreal, Avon and Estee Lauder that make people go ga-ga over their products. The recession in fact is an aid to the cosmetics industry, never mind the news on the most popular brands laying off and overcoming the downturn. This is a golden opportunity for the industry to introspect and rectify mistakes, to look at the positive side and a chance to take the right product to the right market. This is a time to think out of the box and crack one’s brains on creativity. Ideas are never rotten, it’s the power of the marketers to attract the consumers whether recession or no recession.

Also, the recession does not affect this industry, because ‘beauty’ – the definitions may vary for different people, is skin-deep and the fact that life is all about doing things aesthetically counts too.
Girls and women want to be glamorous and vivacious like Marilyn Monroe or closer home Kareena Kapoor. Men want to be Brad Pitts and Ranbir Kapoors. Though this may seem clichéd, it is the dream of most people. King of Pop – Michael Jackson feared death so much that he wanted to clone himself and we have heard numerous such examples that will leave us dumbstruck.

Who wants to worry about wrinkles, lines and sagging skin? Medical and scientific research is another aspect which is working on innumerable products for all us dreamy consumers. Stem cell technology is the future for various areas of life and one such area is the anti-aging field.

For those of us who want to be confident, feel pampered, complimented, overcome the ‘recession’, forget the stress of daily life and care a damn about others, anti-aging is the mantra!

Queen Bee's New Avatar!

Share

Meenakumari, Madhubala, Waheeda Rehman, Hema Malini, Sri Devi, Madhuri, Kajol and then Rani... No actress has been able to set the BO on fire than these powerhouse of talents! But the new glam look of our homely Rani hasn't been taken well by the media and her fans. Yes, she did set a trend in KKHH but that was way back in 1997! I don't mean actresses over a period of time cannot live up to the glam image. Certain actresses do - Eg: Priety Zinta in KANK and JBJ. She was ultra glamorous!
Rani's no doubt looking good losing oodles of pounds but I personally feel she's trying too hard. Rani, you have lots of fans...I guess you should just focus on what you do best - 'act' and the rest of the magic will follow!

Back with a bang!

The Hindi industry is surely a ticket to success. In the dog-eat-dog world, for some, it is instant rise to fame and for many; it is a slow climb up the hill. Here’s a look into some of them who have slogged in the industry and are currently super stars!

Shilpa Shetty- The long-legged dusky beauty made her debut with King Khan in ‘Baazigar’.With a string of blinks and misses, she was a go-getter! She could only boast of item songs and a nose job! With ‘dhadkan’, she said ‘phir milenge’ to her acting prowess! An enthusiastic person, she went with the flow and hit the bull’s eye with ‘Big Brother’. She is on cloud nine with meetings with the British PM Tony Blair and Queen Elizabeth 11 and also launching perfumes, restaurants, and brand of clothing. Shilpa is now an International star!

Saif Ali Khan-The ‘Chote Nawaab’ of Bollywood was criticized for being feminine and an actor who could only play second fiddle to the ‘Khiladi’-Akshay Kumar.Farhan Akhtar’s ‘DCH’ changed it all for saif, who received accolades for his spontaneity and comic timing. This led to a string of popular films and he received the national award for the best actor for ‘Hum Tum’. ‘Parineeta’ and ‘Omkara’ were immensely surprising! He is a ‘langda’ in his real life relationships but ‘langda tyagi’ in reel life walks away with all the awards and the glam Bebo too!

Arshad Warsi- Famous as ‘Circuit’ with the ‘Munnabhai series’, he debuted in ‘Tere mere sapne’. Arshad is inimitable and excels in comedy and dialogue delivery and not to forget, he is a natural dancer too! He proved his acting abilities in films like ‘Waisa bhi hota hai: part 2 and ‘Kabul express’.

Himesh Reshammiya-He started his music career to fulfill his father’s wishes. Made caps lucky not just for him, but for his tutors too! Rem, vineet of Sa re ga ma pa? It was with ‘Bandhan’ and’Pyar kiya to darna kya’ that he befriended Salman khan and went on to compose almost all of his films with hits like, ‘Tere naam’ and ‘Maine pyar kyu kiya’and showed his immense gratitude to Sallu and family in the award functions. Gave Emraan Hashmi the popular track from ‘Aksar’ –‘jhalak dikhlaja’ too! From a mind-blowing composer, to a nasal singer and a masses actor, who salutes the rickshaw-wallas in Germany and not to forget an animated Himmesh, he is sure to give the audience unlimited entertainment!

Watch out for more such snails that will rock in the years to come!

remakes- a challenge !

Share
it's an arduous task of living up to the orginal but r film-makers want to give it a shot . remakes is not about not being innovative and short of ideas but its challenging and risky.
a spate of remakes will be released this yr !
the first ever remake will be Farhan Akhtar's 'Don' .
it's the new age Don and the promos look quite interesting but not thrilling. let's wait and watch if Srk can recreate the magic !
J.P. Dutta's 'Umrao Jaan' is also being talked abt with ash-abhishek in the lead. hopefully this movie will be more than looks and costumes !
Ram Gopal verma- the new age film-maker and trend-setter will remake hindi film industry's biggest film of all ages 'SHOLAY' .
this is sure going to be criticised as nothing can match the original script-writing , songs, direction, cinematography, action sequence and the well-carfted characters-gabbar,veeru,jai,basanti,thakur,samba...............

on the whole, none of them look promising but movies are meant for enjoyment and reviewing.
so let's wait and watch !

RDB goes to the oscars !

Share
RDB is all set for the oscars. Rakesh Omprakash Mehra has crafted a beautiful movie which will be appreciated world-wide ( if it impresses them ).
it's Aamir's second movie to go to the oscars after 'Lagaan'.
there were lots of debate and polls conducted to survey which movie fits the bill for the oscars.
apart from RDB, we had shakespeare's adaptation of 'Othello'- 'Omkara' by Vishal bharadwaj, Rajkumar Hirani's 'LRM' and Mhadhur Bhandhrkar's 'Corporate'.
i personally felt RDB is the right choice as it is a movie made for the present gen of India with his rebelliousness, bindaas attitude and a tinge of patriotism.
y always showcase India as a country with bullock-carts and village belles steeped in superstition ?
let's create an India of the present and expose it to the world .
RDB will rock at the oscars !

what if u loved someone from the bottom of ur heart and never got him ?
what if u loved someone and never expressed it ?
what if, there were no ifs ?
well, that would ve been lovely isn't it ?
what if, there were no buts ?
we 'd ve not been able to do justice to anything in life !

instead, life's full of ifs and buts coz.....................................................
if the Wright bros didn't imagine to fly, we 'd ve not been able to create a machine which makes us fly round the globe !
if there was lots of money already in store for us, we'd never ve taken the pains to study and earn a living for r family !
therefore, thank GOD for the ifs and buts, life 'd not ve been the same without them !

life

Share
life, what is it ? y is it so important to us ?
there are many shades to this word 'life'. it is life that makes us live but are we making the right use of r lives ?or are we just living for the sake of it ?
we don't know where this life is going to take us in the next 10 yrs !
so,let's live it to the fullest.let's make use of every opportunity that life offers us.let's make the world a better place.let's spread happiness around us.wake up !time is fleeting and there are so many dreams to be fulfilled.
so much to do and the time is not enough.whatever is going to be r life-span,let's make everybody r friends.y make enemies ?
who knows whose going to stay with us all thru r life !
maybe the one we hate the most, maybe the only one who'll walk by us. No MATTER WHAT !
well, that's life strange and mysterious.ppl make r life complete, without them it's meaningless.we pretend most of the time. we r never ourselves. we try to be some tom, dick and harry . y being the 'just me ' is so difficult for us ?
someone said: " life is half spent before we know what it is "
anyways,we all live once , so live life to the fullest.
life comes only once ,live it the way u want to !

you fall in love at first look, excahnge glances for a few days.
friends begin to pair you both, you beginto feel like you know each other since ages.clandestine meetings are not to be forgotten.you are not complacent and know the in and out of each other.you are the talk of the town but for good reasons.you gain popularity and friends easliy.out of the blue you are a whole new you.life's full of surprises and happiness galore and now it's time to wake up from ypur reverie !
this is beauty .

she was naughtier than you are and playful to the core. with loads of friends to hang out and chill out with.she enjoyed her childhood days immensely.college was meant for bunking. she was incredible and her demeanour was an example for others to follow suit.she had her own aspirations but destiny plays on all and it played on her too.she had taken up the most diificult of occupations in the world.she had a bundle of responsilbilities but she never cribbed.her children were little angels and they became the best of friends for life.
this is beauty !

friends come and go but just one gets the tag of 'best friend'.you share your deep dark secrets with her,she annoys you at times but gives you a shoulder to lean on.she is estatic about your achievements.she is blunt to point out your faults.she peps u up when ur down.you 'd not 've been the same person without her. her big broad smile makes ur day.ur proud to ve her as ur best friend.
this is beauty !

you might ve played a lot with him when u were a tiny tot.u looked upto him for advice and still do.u may fear him now actually respect him a lot more than u do to the other family members.he may not exchange words with u that often but u know that he loves u a lot.he is meticulous and often protective abt his little angels.you need him for pocket money, for those lovely family dinners,to get u the best things in this big bad world and most of all u need him so that u can say to the world- my daddy's strongest !
this is beauty !

her silly fights may seem endless, her tingling laughter evades gloom.her talks make no sense at times but u still lend ur ear.she may not outwardly express her love for u,but u know that she'll always be there for u.her silence speaks a thousand words for u.she is often protective abt her little sisters.when she is near u bully her, but when she is away u long for her.but there'll come a time when she 'll really ve to go and u can do nothing abt it....
this is beauty !

having a bro or sis is great but when u ve a twin life's a roller-coaster !
u came into this world together with eyes shut. u possibly did everything on this earth with the presence of each other.parting is not inur dictionary.you cannot do without her.life seems pale and gloom without her ever smiling face.she is ur strength and worst ur weakness.u love her immensely and admire her.
u came into this world together but wont go out of it together.................

school days

Share
holidays are fun and at times boring.
school life has come to an end.
the fun and enjoyment which i experienced in school, will definitely not come back.
three months of leisure and fun.
it's time to throw my books which i've already done.
it's time to just sit back and relax.
school life was gr8.
studying made me go mad, and everyone else too.
games,singing,dancing were fun.
teasing, playing pranks are to be noted.
competitions,participating was the best.
school life will be memorable for each one of us.
the moments shared long time agowith friends are cherished by everyone to this day.the encouragement given by our sweet teachers made us feel special and still do.punishments, blastings blah blah are common in high school.
school an institution of learning was once upon a time an institution of leisure !
i only wish it colud still be !
but everyone of us needs to get into school, experience it from a to z and then just get out.we wait for it but once out it's too hard for us to forget those beautiful moments spent in school with friends.
they are sure to be cherished.most of us cry at the beginning and at the last day of school.
at the beginning of school we are not keen on entering our class-room, but on the last day we just want to go back to those naughty days.

i wish i could go back to my sweet class-room ,but life has to move on and nobody can stop it. CAN WE ?

i wrote this after my 10th.... and i must say school days are the best !

we decided to meet on tuesday

Share
we decided to meet up on tuesday.
and we did.
the weather was cool.
it was another of our so called meetings.
it continued and i hope it continues cause i don't want to miss them.
as usual i attended classes, there were fun but there was a vaccum.
and that could be filled by only one person.
we weren't tactiturns but ended up during our meetings, nor did we suffer from loquacity.
we confided in each other.
we never arranged for clandestine meetings.
we cherished every moment spent together.
it was beautiful.
how i wish i had a time machine !
i could go back to my past.
but let's be pragmatic.
sometimes we would meet for 10 minutes, sometimes the whole day ,
sometimes we would ring each other and sometimes we would never meet.
or should i say we couldn't, but that's the journey of life.
we continued our journey of life in our own separate ways.
but we did continue our meetings , cause friends like her are too hard too find.
so, whom do you think i was talking about ?

all about loving....

Share
when someone you love hurts you,
it's time to put a full stop.

when someone you love ,loves you,
it's time to analyse.

when someone you love , rejects you,
it's time to laugh it off.

when someone cares for you,
it's time to realise.

when someine admires you,
it's time to love oneself.

CHANGES - PHYLLIS LIN

Share

Friends forever you promised.

together till the end.

we did everything for each other.

you were my best friend.

when i was sad, you were by my side.

when i was scared, you felt my fear.

you were my best support -

if i needed you, you were there.

you were the greatest friend.

you always knew what to say.

you made everything seem better.

as long we had each other,

everything would be okay.

but somewhere along the line,

we slowly came apart.

i was here, you were there,

it tore a hole in my heart.

things were changing,

our cheerful music reversed it's tune.

it was like having salt without pepper,

a sun without it's moon.

suddenly we were miles apart,

two diffrent people, with nothing the same.

it was as if we hadn't been friends ;

although we knew deep in our hearts

neither one of us was to blame.

you had made many new friends

and luckily, so had i

but that didn't change the hurt -

the loss of our friendship made me cry.

as we grow older , things must change

but they don't always have to end.

even though it is different, now,

you will always be my friend.
